Alternative Method for Determination of Milk Somatic Cell Count in Dairy Cow
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Milk somatic cell count is considered as an indicator for raw milk quality and udder health status in dairy cows (4, 6). Many approaches have been made to determine milk somatic cell counts in dairy cow and goat both in the field and laboratory including California Mastitis Test (CMT, a cow side test), Fossomatic cell count (FSCC), and Direct Microscopic Count (DMC) (1,7). These conventional methods possess their own limitations in terms of cost, accuracy and time on sample processing. Fossomatic cell count (FSCC) required expensive equipment and was time-consuming. In particular, human error is of great concern for determination of SCC measured by CMT and DMC. DeLaval cell counter (DCC) has been recently introduced as an alternative tool for bulk milk screening and udder health monitoring both in dairy cow and goat (1, 2, 3, 8). DCC was a portable device yielded a reliable and rapid results as compared to the standard method (Fossomatic analyzer) (1, 3, 8). Therefore, this study was conducted to determine quarter milk SCCs in dairy cows using 3 different methods including CMT, DMC and DCC.

متن کاملA Robust Statistical Model to Predict the Future Value of the Milk Production of Dairy Cows Using Herd Recording Data
The future value of an individual dairy cow depends greatly on its projected milk yield. In developed countries with developed dairy industry infrastructures, facilities exist to record individual cow production and reproduction outcomes consistently and accurately. Accurate prediction of the future value of a dairy cow requires further detailed knowledge of the costs associated with feed, mana...
متن کاملAssociation between bovine lactoferrin gene variant and somatic cell count in milk based on EcoRI restriction site
Mastitis is one of the most serious and costly diseases affecting dairy cattle production. In the present study, effects of a lactoferrin gene polymorphism (intron 6) on milk somatic cell count (SCC) and subclinical mastitis was investigated in 121 Holstein dairy cattle. Two alleles of A and B and two genotypes of AA and AB were found in an EcoRI recognized single nucleotide polymorphism in int...

108 milk samples were collected to study the relationship of somatic cell counts (SCC) and milk composition with milking methods and udder hygiene from 27 Holstein Frisian (HF) dairy cows having moderate milk yield in mid-lactation and parity of 2 to 4, at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agricultural University Peshawar dairy farm. All animals were randomly distributed into three categories on the basis of ...
متن کاملModels to Estimate Lactation Curves of Milk Yield and Somatic Cell Count in Dairy Cows at the Herd Level for the Use in Simulations and Predictive Models
Typically, central milk recording data from dairy herds are recorded less than monthly. Over-fitting early in lactation periods is a challenge, which we explored in different ways by reducing the number of parameters needed to describe the milk yield and somatic cell count of individual cows. Furthermore, we investigated how the parameters of lactation models correlate between parities and from...
